My dear readers, my first
entries I have published here may always serve as my last will. I would like to
acknowledge each and everyone that I have always considered each and every day
of my life as my last day.
Sometimes I thought:
“Mabagal lang ba tayong
tumatanda o mahaba lang talaga ang buhay?”
No one has ever answered this for no one will even bother to think of it in these days where we were all busy to make our own lives.
Nowadays, news have make us
smile, make us proud, make us inspired, make us hopeful, make us thankful, make
us angry, make us guilty, make us sad, but most of the time, they make us aware
and concern.
I had once mentioned in my
valedictory address:
Now, ask yourself. Who am I?
Have I done something good?
Shakespeare have once quoted,
“We know who we are yet know not what we may be.”
I would also like to share a
selection read to us by our fourth year adviser and English teacher. It belongs
to an anonymous writer. This is not exactly the words but I just rephrased it
based on how I remember it.
“When I was young and free and my
imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world.
As I grew older and wiser, I
discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights and decided to
change only my country. But it was always impossible.
As I grew into my twilight years, in
one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those
closest to me, but alas, my wish did not come true .
And now as I lie on my deathbed, I
suddenly realized: If I had only changed myself first through my aspirations,
then by example I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and
encouragement, I could have changed my country and, who knows, by influence, I
may have even changed the world.”
We are the youngblood of this nation
today, a nation which I can’t still say as making progress but somehow just making
changes for the youth, together with the grown-ups, is known as the catalyst of
change.
We don’t lack time, we waste it. Let
us admit it. Nowadays, students don’t have the ideas, the actions, the dreams. They are not aware. They are not concern. There is
always a MUST, there is always a CAN, but is there’s a WILL?
John F. Kennedy left us with his
words, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your
country.”
Severn Suzuki, at the age of 12, had
silenced the UN Earth Summit 1992, had silenced the world with her minutes of
speech in which she challenged the grown-ups to reflect their own words into
actions.
Today, we may be students but
tomorrow or someday, we may already be heroes of this nation, villains of this
nation or even tambays who have just witnessed, who have just blame and
complain.
“Walang masamang mangarap. Libre
lang mangarap.”
But we should always have deadlines
on our dreams. Let us turn our dreams into goals.
Happiness or success is not a
destination. It is a journey.
“Para tayong nakasakay sa isang dyip
patungo sa isang magandang lugar. Dahil sa iniisip natin ang ating
patutunguhan, di natin nakikita ang mga magagandang tanawin na ating
nadadaanan.”
We then ask God why we are not
happy, why we are not successful, without thinking life gives us not what we
want nor what we need, but what we DESERVE!
I would like to leave some words of
wisdom to you, ladies and gentlemen:
Dream what you want to
dream. Do what you want to do. Go where you want to go. Be what you want to
`be. Grow as what you want to grow.
A poet had once said:
Life is a goal. Reach it.
Life is a challenge. Meet it. Life is a dream. Realize it. Life is a game. Play
it. Life is an opportunity. Grab it. Life is a mystery. Unfold it. Life is a
puzzle. Solve it. Life is a song. Sing it. Life is a struggle. Accept it. Life
is a sacrifice. Offer it. Life is a sorrow. Overcome it. Life is a joy. Spread
it. Life is love. Share it. Life is a romance. Enjoy it. Life is a gamble. Take
it. Life is a tragedy. Face it. Life is a promise. Fulfill it. Life is a
battle. Fight it. Life is a journey. Complete it. Life is God’s gift. Cherish
it.
Life is short, live it. Life
is simple, people are complicated, expect it.
Your body is fragile and
your heart is fragile, take care of it. Your mind is wasted, clean it.
Calories, burn them.
You have blessings, share
them. You have more than enough, give it.
The lessons of the past,
review them. The lessons of every day, pick them. Mistakes are everyday,
failures are everyday, correct them. Experience is everyday, learn from it.
Problems are challenges, face them and solve them.
There is beauty, look on it.
Negative thoughts, stop them. Bad habits, change them.
You have anger, dump it. You
are sad, dispose it. You have tears, wipe them. You have regrets, swallow it.
You have doubts, erase it. Your have fear, face it. You hold the truth, say it
and show it.
Talents are hidden, keep
them but don’t hide them. Ideas are coming, ideas are flowing, write them. We
have options, think of it. We have common sense, always bring it, always use
it. Work for a cause, not for applause. Live to express, not to impress. Don’t
strive to make your presence noticed but make your absence felt. You are
working, do it, start it and finish it. You will do it, try it. You failed, try
it again. You failed again, never give up, just try and try.
Chances are everywhere, grab
them. Dreams are soaring, strive for them, follow and chase them. Success is
for you, happiness is for you, go for it. If your wishes don’t come true, then
make it happen.
Words can kill, so hold
them. Wounds are deep so heal them. Your friends are many, count them, they are
not unkind but just hard to find. Best friends are here, true friends are
there. And I am one of them.
Your Mom and Dad loves you,
love them. The world needs you, save it. The youth is smiling, the youth is striving,
support them. Hope stands with you, plant it and carry it in your life.
Time is gold, time passes
by, spend it. Memories are sweet, cherish them. Today is another day, wake up
for it. Today is a gift, open it. God is great, thank Him. You don’t know the
answer, find it. If you still don’t know, pray for it.
You can do it, prove it and
show it. You are not perfect, accept it. You are a special person, smile for
it. You are a good person, believe it. You are born and still alive, be proud
of it. You are here because you deserve it. What I have said, don’t forget
them. But remember them in your lives.
Now, I open to you a side
mirror of my reflections and points of view about various thoughts which come
upon me in just a jiffy. It is an entire coverage of my thoughts about the good
and bad, birth and death, joy and grief, love and hate, friends and foes, rise
and fall, wealth and poverty, virtues and vices, secrets and mysteries.
With this, I realize the
value of how an idea comes from just a second, how we write it in minutes, how
we edit it in hours or days, how it challenge, inspire and influence others in
his years!
And I have always believed
that we are all writers, capable writers- no need to attend writing class where
they just teach us the basics, the language, the words, what’s right or wrong.
There are no standards in writing. There are only requirements- knowledge,
observation, mood, experience, inspiration, opinion and imagination. Again, we
are all writers, we just need to practice, show it and prove it!
The name of this blog has
always made me smile for some reasons I don’t even know.
And I hope, we writers and
readers, we, the concern, may be connected in these different horizons we may
see beyond our own “side mirror.” Whenever our mind goes blank, let us look at
the world differently. Let us smile and let the world wonder why.
Now, I look forward in every reader of these entries. I will leave you a challenge- at the end of the day, we MUST have something to share, something to reflect in our life, something to cherish.
“Ito pa lang ang simula ng
lahat.
With
these words, I welcome you to my own side mirror…
